Entry Level Employment Exploration
Placement in local employment opportunities to provide meaningful real-world work experience appropriate to capabilities and consistent with employer requirements. Development of transferable work skills common to many work sites, establishing appropriate workplace accommodations, and progress monitoring are key goals.
Students who are not candidates for traditional or formal postsecondary
options for any number of reasons, but are ready or willing to commit
to full time competitive employment may track into this option. The Employment
Track introduces students to the work environment and teaches workplace
skills. LDI provides support-related services -- the extent needed by
the student.
Students and staff work on the development of a systematic and individualized
job search based on occupational exploration and field experiences that
occurred throughout the two year period of the post-secondary program.
Job search matches and an occupational goal analysis are influenced by
background information related to demonstrated skills from previous work
history, levels of demonstrated performance on aptitude and educational
testing instruments and identified areas of occupational interest derived
from various inventories.
This unique employment program component works closely with employers
so they are aware of student accommodation or performance needs. The students
are taught how to advocate for themselves, when to disclose to an employer,
and how to seek assistance from LDI if things become difficult at any
time of the employment experience. LDI always strives to work in a respectful
manner with employers and students so that the individual may maintain
dignity, privacy and autonomy.
